While I understand that your comment on Sooch's shirt was meant as a joke, I would like to speak from a different perspective. I'm not going to say you have to change your thinking or anything, all I'm attempting to do is point out a line of thinking many don't consider when tossing the word emo out in a joking manner.

Emo is a shortened form of emotional. And I am well aware of its origins as label for a specific subculture.

The term has since become a derogatory and dismissive term for people who speak about their negative experiences and feelings. Anyone who is feeling sad, self conscious, or otherwise negatively for reasons others don't see or deem worthy of such feelings can be told, "Stop being so emo."

As someone who has lived the majority of her life with Major Depressive Disorder, and struggling to have people understand and take that issue seriously, I find such a dismissive term to be offensive. It undermines people's emotions and their ability to speak about how they feel and get help if they need it. It denies a person's individual experiences and personal resiliency to what they've gone through.

As I said, I know you did not intend to do any of those things. I know this comment was not directed at myself either.

I post my reply only as a means of shedding light on a rarely publicised subject. I place no judgement, and make no demand for immediate change. I only ask for consideration of my words.

it's not that deep, my dude.
i have 2 diff kinds of depression and emo has never been used to make fun of or belittle actual depressed individuals. it's just used to describe a fashion style that adopted the term.

relax lol

@princeling: It has been used to make fun of or belittle my experience and emotions...dude. The word never doesn't tend to actually apply to most things. There is a reason I feel so strongly about the word.

I do admit my rant was a bit over the top, and I apologize for my over reaction. I suppose I let the memories of having my diagnosis mocked get the better of me, and lack of proper sleep made posting a tirade seem appropriate.

I really hope it goes on like this, it's just not realistic, that a gay person gets his love although he's straight. But of course they need to make up and be the best friends again.

Poor Sooch is so hurt, confused and angry...And Howie is just a mess of feels...

I don't know who I want to hug first!

Sooch needs help with more than this relationship problem too. Poor stuck in the typical trap of "Success=money...but I am bored by the high money stuff!!! And typical study skills aren't working...ugh!"

My cycle in my first college attempt was: What are study skills? What is social life? I did bad on a test? But I'm good at this subject! It should be easy!! Depression, procrastination, internets, friends! Skipping classes, failing classes, spiralling, spiralling, failure.

I did eventually get an associate's in a completely different subject though! Yay!
